The I-Don’t-Wanna-Be-An-Engineer’s Guide For Explaining The Universe

I’m sure you’ve heard the axiom “Sh** Happens.” Well that is merely one version of the truth. “Some things happen because…” is an engineer’s attempt to make things right with the world. An engineer, believe it or not, appreciates order. There is nothing more unkempt than a random act (entropy, if you must insist on using the Thermodynamic term). That is why it is often easier for an engineer to accept the presence of God (simpler to describe) than it is to explain for a single believer why they can’t be right.

To the unenlightened the engineer seems to ramble. “It is always better to baffle them with B.S. than it is to give the appearance of not knowing an answer.” This is attributed to two facts. In college, partial credit was given for partial answers. Also, society believes in using scapegoats. Thus when something goes wrong, blame always falls to…the engineer who used inadequate foresight.

In the interest of conciseness, the remainder of this essay will be limited to preapproved topics.
